Truth

‎"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

HOWEVER, reading Ayn Rand gave us 2112.

So, I think I have to call this one a wash.

Two bad books.*

One led to a great album. One led to three great movies.

*I know, I am in the minority on this one, especially when it comes to Lord of the Rings. I am comfortable with that. I also don't care for Shania Twain and millions would disagree with me.

All views expressed are only my opinion, not a claim to objective quality.

When I start speaking on behalf of all mankind, I'll let you know. ;)

Chuck. You may want to give credit to the writer of the original quote, John Rogers of the blog Kung Fu Monkey...who is a gamer and has been a frequent EN World commenter in the past.

In the debit column to Atlas Shrugged, it also led to an absolutely dreadful movie. Not surprised you missed it (judging by the box office receipts, everybody did), but Atlas Shrugged the movie came out earlier this year.

I honestly had no idea who made the quote, thanks for the heads up! :)

Out of curiosity, is that the John Rogers who works on Leverage (jonrog from ENW)?

I'm actually a fan of a couple things he's done- he worked on the Jackie Chan cartoon as well.

On the Atlas Shrugged movie, I heard of it, but never saw it, so I didn't want to judge.

Yes, it's the same John Rogers as Leverage.

"There is more of good in you then you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world."

For hoarded gold read reflexive Ayn Rand bashing.

Such restraint is rare & merits some praise, & so you have mine.
