What might have been- bastards

Joss Whedon and Jeph Loeb (longtime DC and Marvel writer of comics such as Batman: Hush and Superman, as well as producer and writer for Smallville from Season 2 on) developed a "Buffy: Year One" concept for a Saturday morning cartoon, telling untold stories of Buffy's early years.

Fox had it slated for its Saturday morning "Fox Box" line of "Children's Programming" (placed in quotes so I dont have to feel bad about watching TMNT religiously every Saturday).

Alyson Hannigon was doing voice work for the show when Fox got cold feet and pulled the plug.

So let me get this straight: Fox lets UPN and WB put Buffy and Angel on the air, goes out of their way to kill Firefly in less than a season, then lets Universal turn it into a movie. What do these guys have against putting their own successful works on the air?
